Hands down I must mention this....bring your own food! Do not expect everyone to understand what you are going through because they do not. Not their fault, here I am a nurse and boy have a learned a lot since having my own experiences.
Tips:
- Save a few things on hand as special treats/snacks for when you are at the play date and cupcakes come out or everyone is going for ice cream. Example: http://www.enjoylifefoods.com
- Pack a meal you know the child will eat and love...feeling included is huge to anyone in our social culture...food surrounds every event or gathering
- Make something that is easy to bring for example: fruit, veggie, protein
- When the host says they will make something they can have be polite and thank them for their willingness to include your child but explain it's really no problem for you to bring the food.
Lessons learned: not worth having an ER visit because you are afraid to say no thank you. I've learned I have a much better time if I plan ahead and bring the food.
